THE “SUSTAINABILITY AND SOCIAL IMPACT PACT” IS BORN, AN IMPORTANT MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN ITALIAN RED CROSS AND REGUSTO

On Oct. 17, on the occasion of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, Regusto presented the guidelines of the national protocol that will feature Regusto and the Italian Red Cross for a project to support people in vulnerable situations and combat waste in the food and non-food sector, as well as actions to promote social innovation as a tool for developing the digitization, tracking, monitoring and reporting of donations.

The agreement, promoted by the Italian Red Cross, one of the most important voluntary associations at the national level , and Regusto, which developed the first portal at the European level on sustainability, aims to promote a wide-ranging concept of sustainability, including good practices for the social inclusion of the most fragile, but also for environmental protection. Thanks to this protocol and the technology developed by Regusto, the Italian Red Cross, through its Regional and Territorial Committees, will have access to donations and/or purchases at subsidized prices of food, pharmaceuticals, basic necessities or any other goods at risk of being wasted or unsold, which companies registered on the Regusto platform will make available.

An opportunity of great social and environmental value, which alongside the goal of triggering a virtuous circle of solidarity by combating waste, will give the Italian Red Cross the possibility of reporting, digitizing and tracking the economic and product flows generated by the activation of the protocol.

For the first time, there will be a real innovation in the field of social and sustainability reporting: thanks to the blockchain technology made available by Regusto, through the elaboration of detailed reports and statistics, it will be possible to certify the social (no. of meals equivalent) and environmental (carbon dioxide, water, soil and ozone savings) impact indices generated and to account for the food poverty alleviation and social support activities promoted by the Italian Red Cross.

In line with CRI’s Strategy 2030 , which aims to “contribute to the global humanitarian agenda, make progress in the fight against poverty, and intervene effectively in disasters and all personal and community emergencies, the Sustainability and Social Impact Covenant, will be both an operational and informational strategic tool that will tend to raise community awareness on issues and behaviors of common concern.

Regusto, since its inception, has established itself as an innovative technology platform in the area of anti-waste and is now considered the first Europe-wide portal of sustainability. This partnership is another step forward in the fight against poverty, not only in terms of waste recovery but also in terms of equity and social dignity.
